Garuda

2019

Pen and pencil on toned paper

58 x 45 cm

Garuda is Vishnu’s eternal carrier (Vahana) and devotee. In Vaishnava temples, he is found facing the main temple sanctum.

This drawing is inspired by the Garuda seen in the mandapa (pillared hall) at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam in South India. The form of Garuda in Srirangam is unique in it’s massive size and pose.
